Instructions

  • First, in a microwave-safe mug ( roughly 1 cup ( roughly 1 cup measurement) all purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Then give the dry ingredients a good mix. (here you can also use brown sugar instead of white to give the cake a nice gooey texture).
  • Then add in the milk, vanilla essence and oil. Mix all the ingredients until well incorporated. Finally mix in some milk chocolate chunks into the batter.
  • Now microwave for 1 minute. (here I’ve used a 1200w microwave, if yours is different then the timing may vary. If the microwave you have is less than 1200w, it may take you up to 1.5-2 minutes to make the cake).
  • Take it out of the microwave oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
  • Dust your cake with some icing sugar and drizzle it with some chocolate sauce or you can serve the cake with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

It just doesn’t work. I tried it 2 times with different microwaves, different times and accurate measurements, but still a wet, sticky, undercooked cake. The 1st time it was extremely sticky and hard but yet wet and undercooked, the same the other time except less time and not hard, but doughy. It just never works. I wanted an easy, successful mug cake, but I guess I’ll always have to work the traditional way in oven.

  4. I love, love, love this recipe!!! I personally used to just make it as a mug cake except i’d put it in a small baking pan in the oven at around 190c but then my mum and sister began to ask for me to make them one so in the end I just decided that I hated doing all the small dishes and just made it into a cake!! Delicious! I typically do the 7 servings option and that normally fills up the cake pan just fine for just 3 or 4 people. Definitely it needs more milk, i’m a little iffy about the sugar so I add 2 or 1 tbs extra, and I take out the vanilla essence. It doesn’t taste THAT good on the 2nd day but it’s still good! It gets quite moist on the second day. After I found this recipe, I haven’t been using any others! It literally takes the shortest amount of time to bake (25ish mins), VERY fast to make (probably like 5 minutes), such little and simple ingredients, and tastes really good! I haven’t yet to try it but I think it would be a 10/10 if you made some frosting to go with it. Just make sure the frosting isn’t too sweet! Definitely would recommend.
