Potluck, dinner party, or my niece’s birthday last month- basically anywhere I have been invited lately, I have brought thishomemade peanut butter mousse with me. And guess what? It got so much love, I was handing out the recipe on sticky notes at the end of every event!
So, what’s the secret that makes this mousse so irresistible?
It’s nutty, creamy, and fluffy all at the same time. The rich and savory taste of the peanut butter blends perfectly with the sweet and creamy whipped cream, creating a delicious contrast. To balance out the sweetness, cream cheese adds the right amount of tang and rounds off the flavor, creating a well-balanced mousse that’s never too overpowering.
Oh, by any chance, are you a peanut butter lover, too?
If so, you don’t even need to hear the details- this mousse is exactly what should be in your dessert stash! With its creamy texture, nutty aroma, and crushed peanuts on top, it’s the perfect treat that will have you going nuts for more!

Choosing The Right Kind For Your Peanut Butter Mousse Recipe
Salty, chunky, or natural- which type of peanut butter is suited for this recipe? Let’s find out!
Creamy Vs. Chunky
I am going to ruin the suspense here and just say it- I am a big fan of the creamy version when it comes to mousse recipes! The smooth and silky texture of the creamy peanut butter helps it to blend with the whipped cream effortlessly and gives the mousse its signature light and fluffy texture.
While chunky peanut butter isn’t my first choice for making this mousse, it might be right up your alley if you want a slight crunch in your dessert. Keep in mind that chunky peanut butter doesn’t mix as smoothly and might give you a grainy texture instead of the light and airy consistency expected in a mousse.
Salted Vs. Unsalted
As the name suggests, salted peanut butter contains salt that helps balance the sweetness of the mousse. You can use unsalted peanut butter, too- just add a pinch of salt to achieve the same depth of flavor.
Sweetened Vs. Unsweetened
While salted peanut butter is convenient to use, I find sweetened peanut butter quite the opposite!
Depending on what type of brand you are using, sweetened peanut butter contains a lot of sugar that may make the mousse extra sweet. In that case, you need to reduce the amount of sugar used in this recipe. Unsweetened peanut butter, on the other hand, gives you full control over the sweetness level and is, therefore, a much better choice for making mousses.
Natural Peanut Butter
Made of just peanut butter and salt, Natural peanut butter contains oils that tend to separate while making this mousse recipe. If you want to make this work, try stirring the peanut butter really well until it’s fully combined.Â
You can also try refrigerating the peanut butter and adding a small amount of sugar and cornstarch to thicken its consistency.

Got Extra Mousse? Here’s How You Can Use It!
Once you make this delicious recipe, chances are there won’t be any leftovers! But if you do happen to have some extra, here are some fun ways to enjoy the goodness:
Parfait
Layer the peanut butter mousse with crunchy elements like nuts, granola, or biscuits, and top with strawberries, apples, or sliced bananas for a perfect parfait treat!
Spread
You can use the mousse as a spread on your toast, pancake or waffles to make your breakfast more delicious.
Smoothies
Want a shake that tastes peanut-astic? Swirl in 2 tablespoons of the peanut butter mousse into your milkshake or smoothies to enjoy a buttery and frosty drink!
No-Bake Cheesecake
The smooth texture and nutty flavor of this mousse are perfect for using it in no-bake cheesecakes as a filling or a delicious layer full of flavor.
