Canned Tuna

Tuna gives this sandwich a solid base that adds great taste and texture to it due to its protein content and omega-3 fatty acids.

Mayonnaise

The creamy, indulgent mayo binds everything together to form a smooth, delicious filling you won’t resist.

Mustard

This zesty condiment makes the sandwiches taste better and better with each bite; lifting them into new flavor heights.

Cucumber

Cucumber is fresh and crunchy which refreshes the palate after eating creamy tuna fillings by giving an overall coolness of taste along with a textured feel every time one bites in it.

Onion

Pungent and sharp, onions give this dish more flavor while also balancing the creaminess of mayonnaise by offsetting it with some tuna fatness.

Salt

It enhances the overall taste of the sandwich which makes sure there is a perfect blend of the ingredients’ natural flavors.

Black Pepper

As well as adding subtle heat and depth, black pepper works harmoniously within these combinations bringing spiciness into this meal thus making it more satisfying than without such an ingredient,

Lemon Juice

The mayo’s richness is well balanced by lemon juice, which adds some acidity to the flavoring mixes.

Chopped Coriander

Fragrant and herbaceous, chopped coriander makes the sandwich taste fresh and delicious, adding more flavor to it with its bright green color.

Chef’s Tips

  • For some extra crispy texture, you can add some finely chopped celery, relish, and red bell peppers or green bell peppers to your tuna mixture.
  • Try using different types of bread such as wheat bread, sourdough bread, or ciabatta that will change up the flavor and texture of your sandwich.
  • Sprinkle grated cheese over the tuna mixture before grilling to get a cheesy outcome for example, this can turn out to be gooey and melty when you grill it.
  • Don’t have fresh coriander? Feel free to use flat-leaf parsley or dill instead for similar flavorings…

Treat your taste buds with our mouthwatering Tuna Sandwich recipe! This classic tuna sandwich is a quick and flavourful meal that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 270 grams / 270 grams Canned tuna (drained)
  • 6 tbsp / 84 g Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp / 15 g Mustard (paste)
  • ¼ cup / 33.25 g Cucumber (finely diced )
  • 2 tbsp / 20 g Onion (finely diced )
  • ¼ tsp / 1.5 g Salt
  • ¼ tsp / 0.5 g Black pepper (crushed)
  • 2 tbsp / 29.57 ml Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp / 0.8 g Coriander (finely chopped )
  • 2 slices / 2 slices Bread (for each sandwich)
  • 1 tbsp / 14 g Butter ((Softened) for each bread slice)

Instructions

  • To start with drain your tuna first so that it does not have any excess water. Ensure no single drop of water remains in the tuna at all. This is important because if there is too much water in it, you will have a watery filling for your sandwich which may end up being soggy.
When properly done through a fine mesh strainer, I feel like using this method to extract liquid from the tuna can be easier by applying pressure gently using the backside of a spoon.
  • In a bowl place drained tuna, mayonnaise, cucumber, and chopped onions then stir until evenly mixed.
  • Season with salt and pepper and add a little lemon juice to it then mix well. Mix them till everything incorporates nicely into each other. At this point, I like to taste my mixture and adjust the seasoning according to taste.
  • Add some finely diced coriander into the mixture and stir again thoroughly.
  • Take 2 slices of bread for each sandwich
  • Spread 1 tbsp of softened butter on one side of a single bread slice. Repeat the same process for another slice of bread
  • Spread one slice of bread with tuna mixture then cover with another one. The addition of butter lends richness to the sandwich while complementing the flavors of the filling.
  • Cut it diagonally and serve the scrumptious tuna sandwiches with crispy fries

Recipe FAQs

Absolutely! But always ensure you cook thoroughly fresh fish before using it in sandwich preparation.

This sandwich is best eaten as soon as possible. However, you can place any other remaining part of it into a tightly sealed container and keep it in the fridge for a maximum of two days. But note that the bread may get wet with time.

Though it’s advisable to create the sandwich at the last moment to avoid the sogginess of bread, you can previously prepare a tuna blend and put it inside a refrigerator until ready to assemble this dish.
